WebSphere Administrator (remote or Albany, NY)
Location: Hybrid in Albany, NY (Onsite every other week for 3 days preferred) or Remote (EST hours required)
Duration: 1-year contract with possible extension
Compensation: 50-60/hr
No Corp-to-Corp or 1099. No 3rd parties.
We are seeking experienced WebSphere Administrators for multiple roles on a high-impact project with the New York State Government. Candidates should possess strong technical expertise and adaptability, with a team-oriented, positive attitude essential for successful integration. This role involves both development and support work, including schedule rotation, with some non-standard hours.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with System Architects to understand business requirements and implement effective solutions.
- Install, configure, and maintain IBM WebSphere Application Servers, ensuring system reliability and performance.
- Monitor JVM performance, including memory management and garbage collection optimization.
- Develop and manage services within the JEE framework, focusing on integration with commercial APIs.
- Utilize server shell scripting (Windows) and ensure server configurations support large-scale JEE applications.
- Participate in an on-call rotation, covering second shifts and occasional weekends.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in Java development, server administration, and JEE components (EJB, JSP, JMS).
- Strong skills in WebSphere or related technologies (WebLogic or AWS); relevant certifications are a plus.
- Knowledge of Oracle or other transactional databases (e.g., SQL Server, DB2).
- Proven experience in server performance tuning, clustering, and load balancing.
- Exceptional communication skills and team-oriented attitude are essential, especially for remote work success.
