Overview:
We are partnering with a growing technology team based just outside Nashville that is developing an internal software platform for high-volume transaction processing. This is a long-term initiative with flexibility around how we bring the right person on board — whether as a full-time hire, part-time contractor, or contract-to-hire.
You’ll be joining early in the evolution of a platform that has been built by a highly skilled offshore team and is now transitioning to internal ownership. The ideal candidate is a self-sufficient senior Java developer who thrives in a collaborative, low-ego environment and is comfortable working with existing codebases while helping shape future enhancements.
Responsibilities:
Maintain and enhance an existing Java-based application in production
Collaborate with leadership to understand the current architecture and future needs
Translate loosely defined business requirements into scalable solutions
Troubleshoot and debug complex systems
Propose improvements and best practices for code, process, and performance
Contribute to planning around future internal development team structure
Ideal Experience:
5+ years of professional Java development (Java SE/EE or Spring frameworks)
Experience working with or modernizing legacy systems
Comfortable owning features end-to-end in small, lean teams
Familiarity with SQL or relational databases (exposure to Informix is a plus, not required)
Excellent communication skills — able to clarify ambiguity and work cross-functionally
Local to the Greater Nashville area and open to being onsite several days per week
Nice to Have:
Exposure to healthcare, logistics, or transaction-heavy systems
Prior experience working alongside offshore development teams
Start-up or small-team background with autonomy
